TASA
Teens Against Substance Abuse
|
| |
The
junior high TASA (Teens Against Substance Abuse) team is comprised of 28
seventh- and eighth-graders who are committed to being a representation
of the high standards expected of a St. John’s student. Through drug
education programs and their everyday behavior in the classroom and at
extra-curricular activities, these students are expected to serve as
role models for their peers and younger students.

 |
The team’s mission is to provide
young teens with the best prevention and intervention tools possible to
deal with life’s choices and potentially destructive decisions.
Ultimately, it is hoped that these students acquire knowledge and
lifeskills that will impact their own lives and the lives of those they
encounter in the future.
TASA members participate in several activities throughout the
year. Red Ribbon Week is a large undertaking for the students with
different activities each day. The group also is involved with the
annual Halloween Parade, the community Christmas tree festival and a
spring assembly, which will feature a puppet show and skits detailing
the harmful affects of drugs, alcohol and smoking.
Teacher advisors for the TASA team include Susan Yakir, Diana
Wrasman and Sue Dew.
Candidates for the team submit an application and write a
paragraph on why they want to join. The advisors and Theresa Kemmann,
principal, select the members. |
