ST. JOHN’S ELEMENTARY

May 18, 2009

Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,

Here it is the last “official” Monday of the 2008-09 school year, but we still have nine days to apply ourselves to make our year a complete success.

Many “thanks” are extended to all those who helped to make our Mini-Relay day so successful. The beautiful weather, awesome speakers and the effort of all made the day special. There are so many times our students are asked to come through for various activities and the “Blue Jay” spirit rises to meet the need as we are able. I certainly am proud of our students for their effort, and we need to remember that prayer is the root of all success.

We did very well with our pizza sales, once again parents and guardians came through for the school. Even in hard economic times, we were able to raise over $5,800.00. Special thanks to Jo Duncan, Ted Hanf and Shelley Kreeger who helped to alleviate the work from the school office! Their gift of time was immeasurable. Thanks also to all the helpers who assisted on delivery day.

As we turn to next year, I first wish to thank the students, parents, guardians, faculty, and the parish community for the support they have given me the last four years. Looking back , it’s great to see the progress which has been made due to the support. May the future be blessed as St. John’s continues to help our students grow in faith, academics, and as individuals.

In case you didn’t know…

1. Smart boards have been incorporated in several classrooms, with more to be added next year.

2. Junior high and sixth grade students have been participating in morning prayer over the P.A. system on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.

3. Progressbook has been used in the junior high, and will be extended to the 5th and 6th grades next year, and hopefully to the 4th grade by second semester. This gradebook program allows parents and students to view grades and comments from teachers on a daily basis.

4. Our behavior/bullying incidents have decreased significantly since beginning the Olweus Bullying Program. Everyone has been on the “same page” in regards to disciplinary procedures. Students are taking ownership for their behavior.

5. Less dress code violations have been noticed as students have become accustomed and aware of expectations.

6. The accreditation process (school improvement plan) is on target focusing on respect for self and others and improving math scores.

These are just a few thoughts which come to mind as the faculty has worked together and with your support we have achieved.

For future reference, the school calendar, supply lists, and eventually the class lists for next year will all be posted on our webpage. Still, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Theresa Kemmann,
Principal
