Dear Parents,
March Madness has arrived! Of course, I’m stealing that term from the NCAA basketball tournament (which I enjoy very much), but it can be called that for many reasons! This is a very busy time of year for us at school, and (weather permitting) the longest month of the year in terms of school days.  In a Catholic School, this is an important time of growth in each stakeholder’s faith, as we participate in many Lenten activities, and it is also Music in Our Schools’ Month! This past week for instance, we had Stations of the Cross, Reconciliation, a historical theater presentation, and many of us are or were at a basketball game or wrestling tournament….oh yeah this past Monday was Pre-School registration, Tuesday evening was freshman parent meeting for next year’s freshman class, Wednesday evening Stations of the Cross….you get the point!

Keep up the great work encouraging your children to do their best and persevere during this busy time! Persevere was our Family Discussion Topic of the Week, and the topic was based on Philippians 3:13-14, teaching us to push on towards the goal that is God’s heavenly call brought through Christ Jesus.  A great message to stay focused on doing what is right and following God’s call.  It was a blessing to have Reconciliation this week in order to help me to persevere in following the call to be father, husband, and principal, and I encourage you, during Lent to go to Reconciliation in order to help you in your heavenly call.  I have been blessed by fifth graders each morning leading us in prayer, and it has offered me the opportunity to get to know some of those students a little better by having them in the office to practice and help lead morning announcements with me.  Positive involvement and the service attitude at St. John’s remain strong.

Another way that is evident is in the volunteer program that continues to help us every day.  During the month of February, 101 hours of volunteering took place during the school day, and I know for many of those volunteers it can be hard to take time out of the middle of you day to help…you continue to model for our students, that service is a lifelong commitment to helping others! Congratulations to Shelley Kreeger, who won the February drawing with the Blue Jay Dollars, for a $25 Scrip Gift Card! I will try to update you next week on the standings of the classroom competition with the Blue Jay Dollars; remember at the end of the year, whichever homeroom has the most Blue Jay Dollars written towards them will be invited with their parents to a cookout with Fr. Mel and me!

Let the ‘Madness’ of March continue; I know I love it! Students learning, great basketball being played, sun staying out longer, and many opportunities to grow in our Faith makes the madness of March very fun for me! Have a peaceful weekend!  -Nate S.

School Uniform Donations
Accidents happen.  Whether it be falling on the playground, spilling milk or ketchup, or a sudden growth of five inches in the middle of the school day….sometimes a student needs a spare shirt or pair of pants to wear for the remainder of a day! We try to keep one of every size in the Mom’s Room for when these accidents happen and you are not available to bring a spare right away, but we are running low! If you have any ‘extra’ uniforms in storage or that have been outgrown, could you please donate them for this use to our Mom’s Room! Thank you very much!

Website
Daily updates are being made to the homepage with morning announcements! The updates are usually made sometime before 9:00 a.m.  Also, the calendar on the grade school homepage should have all of the March activities up to date now.  If you know of something that is not on the calendar, feel free to call or e-mail the school office with that information.  Thank you!
